About

This blog, simply put, is about the things I love that go well together, much like a good wine and cheese pairing.

The idea came about after a wine tasting trip in Konavle Valley in Croatia. A friend and I were kindly gifted this glamorous experience. We had no clue what we were doing, and everyone else in our group seemed to be well-seasoned sommeliers, but we nodded along wisely all day, noting the variations in flavour combinations. I even tried an oyster, well, a tiny bite of it, before deciding to stay a vegetarian after all.

In the car on the way back, we quite smugly thought we had done well to blend in. Then the tour leader asked us, “And what do you think you might pair with a curry?” That’s when my friend piped up in her Mancunian accent, ”I’d just have a beer.” Wrong crowd. But I think deep down, they all knew she was right.

At dinner that night, we went for some cheap pizzas near the supermarket and laughed about how uncultured we both are. It became an ongoing joke for the rest of the holiday to pretentiously pair things we experienced, like wine and cheese.

I had recently read a book and listened to some music afterwards, and the two paired so perfectly together that naturally, this came up as a part of the in-joke, this then turned into a Spotify playlist and is now this blog.

I hope you enjoy the read and maybe find some of your new favourite things along the way!
